ABOUT
The idea for Feminist Conversations was born in an Art-in-Context/UdK Berlin seminar. We researched the history of feminist movements, writings and manifestos from all over the world. What became obvious above all was that it is impossible to establish the same rules and advance feminist movements everywhere in the world. In order to gain attention and support in different societies, we need to be aware of our differences and similarities. This website for exchange and support practices from women* to women*, non-binary and diverse aims to build solidarity and understanding. We invite all women* to organise their own conversations. Across national borders and regardless of social, cultural backgrounds, exchange should become possible. Crossing gender, age and other boundaries is especially encouraged. Let's continue to work on changing mindsets. We should all be feminists!
POTENTIAL
When trying out the method of Feminist Conversations, we were able to identify several potentials. It was about learning something about oneself, listening to oneself and the other person and sharing knowledge and experiences.
It is also about self-empowerment and empowerment. Hearing and using one's own voice is an immediate exercise in taking space with and exploring one's own issues. The feeling of being heard creates connection.
Furthermore, this method can be applied in diverse contexts: between friends and acquaintances, in the family, in feminist as well as activist work, in different social institutions and organizations, and in educational institutions.
Each person can contribute individually, relate. Listening with an open heart is healing. We can see different problems from different perspectives and get helpful tips.
The form of simple conversation can promote solidarity-based everyday practices and pass on feminist knowledge outside of universities. The face-to-face conversation or method can help break down prejudices about feminism and feminists.
The practice of the method serves a culture of solidarity.
